This year's theme was Defying Conventions. Exploring how individuals across different industries and walks of life are creating thought provoking ideologies that is changing how we approach traditional knowledge and common concepts. Which I felt was extremely appropriate considering TEDx was struggling to do well at the University of Waterloo in the past. As a team we decided that this year will be different. Our goal was to fill all 700 seats instead of just 100, create quality production and promotional ads as well as bring in extremely interesting speakers from the university itself instead of looking else where. With all our hard work and effort we were able to reach our goals and the feedback we received was spectacular.

Production

My initial position in the team was lead videographer. As time passed I proved myself to be a great asset by helping the marketing team with content creation. I helped create the logo as well as an animated (a gif.) for promotional ads. The work did not end there, after the event I had to edit 5 talks in a compelling manner. Working under the production manager taught me how hard you must work to create quality content. Everything from the live stream, to the different videographers, to the set ups of the booths and signs must be strategically placed and presented. In the end we successfully produced engaging content.

Stage Design

We, as a team, struggled with stage design the most. We came up with an idea last minute were we would integrate different pieces of see through plastic with an outline of mini lights to give a nice effect. These pieces were gonna have the logo, which is made up of smaller icons, projected on it. Sadly we were not able to accomplish it to the maximum quality we were expecting. Instead we settled for a more minimalistic look and carved sign labeled "TEDxUW" from wood and painted it with Ted's branding colours.

An animated version of the logo I helped create.
